Sector-10 changing again and again

Hi people!
How is it? We were stingy 😛 with the news, but the hard work never stopped.
SO: we are still on Sector-10. Do you remember the maps from last post? Yes? Ok, forget them 😛

We are changing almost everything because we weren’t happy with the mechanics and ideas. We made some prototypes but the gameplay didn’t work as expected and wasn’t that fun. When the gameplay becomes tedious we aren’t happy and if we aren’t happy we want to stop.

So, at the end, we decided to change and try different stuff even if the idea to use more SynBs at the same times remains. We developed different ideas but we had discarded all for the same reason. -_- On one we found out that our engine has a a limitation that we never noticed and that make us change some part of the level designs (but that’s a secret 😉 ).

hardProto3 hardProto4As you can see it’s in early state and we will maybe split it in 2 parts and add stuff before and after.

Just to avoid tediousness we added a new shortcut for making the SynBs change faster: you can still change between last SynB with SPACE + LEFT MOUSE BUTTON but from next beta version if you press SPACE BAR + move the MOUSE WHEEL you will change SynBs as you do with the weapons. Pretty cool, isn’t it? 😉 We noticed that it was necessary when you need more then 2 SynBs and it works very well.

We also fixed many mini bugs that we found out when we have tried the first version of Sector-10 (collisions, overlap on fighting animation and more) so then game is a bit more solid.

Sector-08, Sector-09 – time for a new BETA?

Hi all!
Finally we complete Sector-08 with all of its part.  Last parts are done and tested and balanced again and again. Here are 2 shots from last action-puzzle:

There is more but we prefer that you find out by yourself.
BUT we work hard and fast also on Sector-09 and you know what? It’s almost done. Take a look:

It’s a big area with different puzzle and a lot of stuff to do in Sector-06 style without enemies (maybe.. 😛 ) but we can’t tell more, just three SynBs in your hands, a lot of red water, use your brain and complete the mission!

A now let’s talk now about next important thing: a new beta release.
After we’ll assemble the last 4 new Sectors to the main game and be sure that the journey runs without problems, we will release a new version. So this new release will have ALL THE NEW LEVELS in one shot, with the new abilities for some SynBs, the new enemies, different fixes on enemies AI and stuff, a bit of redesign on some UI icons, an improved SynB-changing mechanic and a lot of new fun!

But when exactly? Wait for next news, this week… ^_^

Sector-08 second part

Last week you saw the new Sector-08 with screens from first part, today we want to show you some new progress.

Thanks to more testing the first part that you saw changed a bit. We removed a collectable key because it was useless, on gameplay side, re-ordered some invisible triggers and balanced the enemy-groups spawn order again. Why again? We decided to introduce here a new bonus for the Ighel SynB because the action oriented direction of the puzzles was sometimes a bit frustrating with the characters change, during the enemies attack. This is one of the common case where you think and design a game situation with all the details in mind (time, single action duration, rooms size, stuff inside…) and then, when you finally build it, you find out that something didn’t work that much as expected. But with the new bonus the situation flips and we must say that it really kick ass and it’s amazing how nice the multiple SynB use works now, while under attack!

On the first major puzzle we make the introduction more intuitive and added on a “special zone” some graphical hints, so it should be clear for the player what to do and we change a bit last part that was in some way skippable in the first version. The following puzzles changed with the elements timing and the enemy numbers and were adapt in some parts with the new bonus in mind. The final result is really very well balanced: you should now fell that if something didn’t work and you die, it’s your fault and not the game, you just need to try a better strategy or find a better way to defend and solve.

And here comes Sector-08

Previously on TBC ^_^ : Sector-07 is almost done . Almost because but we need to change some stuff for the Sectors exploration order – some new area needs special objs/ability so we must be sure that the player don’t get stuck and that he can come back to previous Sectors with any problems.

But today’s update it’s all about Sector-08 so let’s go into it!
Last announcement had a preview from the map but it was changed a bit in the final part. Now there is different area, with different art style, and better and nicer puzzles. The zone was initially set between some kind of mountains with bridges to turn but the gameplay didn’t convince us that much and could have been a bit tedious. We took an old idea we liked a lot and that was waiting for the right moment, altered it and made it fit in the Sector. So: no more mountains, no more bridges but some new stuff to do for surviving and continuing the mission that we are sure you will like 😉 .
Now that’s the current Sector-08 map:

This sector is very long and is more or less divided in 3 zones. The 3D envs are in developing and I think next week we will have the final model with maybe a different color palette + more or less all game scripts done with a completely playable area, from the begin to the end.
Then, of course, we will test it, balance it and see if all works as planned.

After this part we will complete Sector-07 and then develop Sector-09 that is, btw, completely designed and “approved” ^_^ after more then 2 week-meetings and a lot of thoughts and fixes.
And then Sector-10 will come and the game levels will be complete! ^__^

New ALPHA! Survive and KIll them all in the 3 new ARENA MODES


A new and HUGE update is finally available with a lot of nice things and a most of all: the 3 NEW GAME MODES are finally available! 

To unlock the menu with the Arena Modes you need to finish sector 1 (so you will have reached the minimum of combat knowledge). After this you will be able to play with the first area – we will add more and more areas in the future alphas. 

Any mode is about fighting and surviving but has a unique game mechanic with a special set of custom weapons, so it’s not simple shot-or-die (and use and abuse of the combos for making points) but you need to follow the mission and kill as many as possible enemies (by making combos!). 
Because the Arena Modes were born for having great time in fast plays and make more points as possible we will add soon STEAM LEADERBOARDS. So, train now as much as possible 😀 

But the update is not only about this, so here is our current development change log: 

  • UPDATED HUD ICONS: the objects icons are now brighter with a stronger stroke around and we fixed also a Z-index “bug” where the icons were drawn BEHIND instead of in front of the selector.
  • UPDATED HUD SELECTOR and TABS: elements are now all blue with less alpha for better contrast and the selector in particular is completely new, with a nicer and more modern design
  • DIFFICULTY OPTION is no more available from the option menu – when you will start a new game you will also choose the difficulty level
  • NEW GUI ELEMENTS: we have made a new group of elements for the in-game pop-ups that we will include asap.
  • GAME TEXTS are now all into an unique file, from menu to game text to story – you know, order is always better 😉

Next to come: include Sector 6 in current story mode, insert the leaderboards in the 3 new game mode, add the new GUI elements and continue with Sector 7.

Happy Halloween! Back on sale + preview

Happy Halloween!
Maybe you have seen that THE BODY CHANGER is currently also part of the STEAM HALLOWEENSALE so if you have only tried the demo and want to spare some bucks, the time is right.

On the development side, we have fixed some minor bugs (it’s all on the STEAM PINNED DISCUSSION, about the progress) and added some more achievements icons.
The CARD are still in coming soon but with this news we would like to share to you one of the future sectors that you will find in the game.
It has a long and more complex puzzles, as it should be after the first 5 levels that you have played. So, be prepared. 😉

Tomorrow on EARLY ACCESS + some updates!

Hi people!
Tomorrow is finally release time on EARLY ACCESS for THE BODY CHANGER!

First of all tks to all the players that has helped us to make current version very stable and that has posted comments and suggestions.
TBC current BETA has now 5 completely sectors/levels fully playable with all the puzzles and action moments.
We introduce some new things with the last updates, after reading what players has to say:

  • Text hints on screen while loading – this should be really helpful for a better game experience
  • New weapon change shortcut: not only we support the mouse wheel but also the keyboard numbers, as asked from many users
  • New menu shortcut: click more times the INVENTORY BUTTON for switching between in-game menu tabs
  • Some new INFO DEVICES in some the puzzle rooms – so, you won’t get stuck 😉

THE BODY CHANHER  update 16 October
During the period on EARLY ACCESS we will continue with the improvements, we will complete and end the other 5 levels, create new achievements, introduce the collectable artifacts (in all the levels) for increasing the replay value and make it more satisfying.
We would like to end and complete the final game at the beginning of 2015, let’s say February.

STEAM stuff: achievements icons

Hi all!

5 days to the Early Access release on STEAM and we are running like hell for completing all the stuff we want to include.

Currently in the Community Hub the gamers seems to enjoy the the game and Alessio is taking care on some bugs that were found from the nice supporter.

On the art-side we have completed almost all the achievements icon… almost because it possible that we will add some more stuff. We are enjoying making them so why not add interesting and funny stuff?
Here are the current icons:

NEW ALPHA RELEASE V.0.5.5 on Desura

We have published a new alpha on DESURA, with a lot of new stuff – REALLY A LOT.
If you have enjoyed the old alpha we think you will love this one. It has 5 complete level with a lot of puzzle and tons of fights.

Let’s be honest, we are really excited about this release because finally it really is the game we would like to make (even if not complete of course). We polish a lot and put a lot of effort on details. And we also introduced 2 new game mechanic asked by the players, reloading while walking and changing weapons with the mouse wheel. This two things work VERY WELL.

So, if you own the game the alpha is READY FOR YOU, download it from the DESURA client as usual.
The complete change-log:

  1. an important requested mechanic: RELOAD WHILE WALKING. Now you can walk and reload at the same time so you don’t need to run away from the enemies when you are out of bullets 😛
  2. another requested command: WEAPON CHANGE with the mouser wheel.If you would like you can change the weapon (of course only for the Nexus SynB, the fighter one) without the menu but directly with the mouse wheel!
  3. 5 COMPLETE LEVELS ready to explore and play – really a lot of stuff, believe us!
  4. New SynBs to use with different abilities and powers
  5. New Quests for any level, with more explanations and environment elements with info and details
  6. Of course new enemies with different weak/strong points and abilities
  7. Two new distinct types of interactive devices for knowing stuff about gameplay and for the story
  8. Corrected texts
  9. Better environment SFX in general and new sounds for the fights
  10. A new “pain” SFX for the contact with the red water
  11. New shortcut for ray color change, by pressing the SPACE-BAR
  12. A completely new menu with new options, better UI , a new and safer save game system and…
  13. ..finally the key remapping option
  14. Some bug fixing + palette change here and there

Don’t forget that if you haven’t the game right now, you can download the DEMO from here and don’t forget that soon we will be on steam and the discount price time will end. 😉 (of course who will buy the game FROM DESURA will have a STEAM KEY for FREE).

About STEAM W.I.P. and the new demo

Since last week we released a new DEMO, v. 0.5.4.
Just because we fixed and improved a lot of things, we have thought it would be a good idea to make a new demo from the current alpha we are working on.
Here is the nice list of new things, that you will find in it:

  • the menu with the new interface and commands
  • new options + remapping of the game controls
  • new save game system (even if not that important for the demo…)
  • environment improvements (new stuff and more info about the sectors)
  • reloading while walking
  • new story + updated info texts
  • updated and improved sfx + ambient sounds
  • various bug fixed
  • LESS THAN 120 MB 😀

You can find it on our THE BODY CHANGER DESURA page or just download it from our STORE page.

On the STEAM side 😉 a lot of people had asked if we will have CARDs and all the stuff that makes STEAM great. The answer is: of course yes. ^__^
We have designed a part of the ICONS for the ACHIEVEMENTS – of course not really visible NOW:

We have an ACHIEVEMENTS list that is changing a bit (while testing and playing…), some art need a bit more work (like more contrast) and there will be some more icons at the end . Of course some will be hidden until discovered 😉

We have done also a CARDS list so, if you like to collect CARDS, maybe you will have soon also the THE BODY CHANGER cards in your list. 😉
The art is not ready now but we have made some sketches.
